Gold Coast Masqueraders
Masquerading is one of Ghana’s most vibrant cultural expressions, deeply rooted in history, identity, and creativity. From the colorful street performances of Takoradi and Cape Coast to the diverse masquerade traditions across regions, it has become a cultural bridge that unites people through music, dance, costume, and artistry.
“Masquerading is not just performance — it is identity, memory, and the voice of our people.”
Preserving & Elevating Our Heritage
Despite its popularity, masquerading in Ghana lacks a central governing body to coordinate activities, provide resources, and position it as a key driver of cultural tourism and the creative economy. This gap has limited development in areas such as documentation, international exchange, funding, and youth involvement.
The creation of the Gold Coast Masqueraders and Fancy-Dress Federation Ghana (GCMF) unites all groups under a single cultural authority — safeguarding traditions and elevating the art form into a recognized cultural asset both nationally and globally.
